Groundbreaking and innovative, Edge of The Sky is a company whose mission is to promote, encourage, and nurture emerging Canadian artists and their work. Edge of the Sky Theatre fully embraces the ever-changing and wonderfully diverse culture of Toronto.
So far, our company has many outstanding acheivements, such as; hit productions Summerland and The Fence which both made Best of the Toronto Fringe in 2015 and 2016. Blood Ties has been featured on stage in Toronto and the Edinburgh Fringe and on the hit TV show Orphan Black. We’ve taken part in the first Earth to Space performance of I.S.S. (Is Someone Singing) with Commander Chris Hadfield and the Barenaked Ladies.
The foundation of this new and energetic company is Canada’s young people; young people of all races and identities. We work with professional Canadian artists to raise these powerful and disparate voices to a strong and clear focus of enormous breadth, like the horizon at the edge of the sky.
Come to the edge with us.
Teen Fringe is a new youth arts initiative for teens aged 12-17. The program was created by the Toronto Fringe in partnership with Scadding Court Community Centre and Edge of the Sky, the creative team from the award-winning Wexford Gleeks and the Fringe hits Summerland, The Fence, and Blood Ties.
The program's first year took place during the 2017 Toronto Fringe Festival and invited young artists to train with leading professionals in acting, singing and dancing. These young artists then formed a youth ensemble and took the stage at the closing night performance of Edge of the Sky’s 2017 Toronto Fringe Production, True North Mixtape.
Since 1998, KOB has offered talented young people between the ages of 9 & 16 an opportunity to train in the arts. The mandate of the program is to incorporate all three arts disciplines; dance, vocal music and drama. The Summer Music Theatre program culminates in a showcase at the end of each session. Students perform musical theatre selections or a full theatrical production. Past seasons include productions of High school Musical, Grease, You’re a Good Man Charlie brown, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan and Hairspray and many others.
Kids on Broadway operates out of Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts where the artistic team has been working with young performers for over 30 years. The creators of the camp are the founders of Wexford’s Performing Arts program and the award winning Wexford Gleeks. The camp hires some of the industries top professionals who work in major festivals across Canada, on Broadway and in Film and TV. Staff and campers alike are drawn to Kids on Broadway for the outstanding talent that the camp attracts, and the undeniable quality of the productions that Kids on Broadway puts forward.
The Musical Stage Company is the largest and leading charitable musical theatre company in Canada. Established in 2004 as Acting Up Stage Company, we strive to make Canada a leader in musical theatre.
We believe it’s better with music.
We are inspired by music’s unique ability to viscerally affect people and are committed to cultivating experiences – onstage and off – that transform lives, build empathy and create community through musical theatre.
We incubate new Canadian musicals from development to production, investing in Canadian musical theatre writers and building national and international partnerships. Our musical productions – including award-winning contemporary musicals, world premieres and concerts – are seen live by 30,000 people over the 80+ nights that we are onstage annually in venues both traditional and surprising. To date, our work has been recognized with 82 Dora Award nominations, 18 Dora Awards and 16 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards.
Our robust education programs develop the artists and audiences of tomorrow, offering musical theatre training that boosts self-confidence and self-expression for over 200 young people each year without cost to the participants. We also curate innovative musical programs in partnership with diverse organizations, maximizing the resonance of our work across disciplines and communities.
