Library Catherine M. Thompson (Ms T) is the teacher-librarian at Wexford. She is on duty for most of the day, ready to help staff and students with library resources. Mr. Astrella is also in the library for first semester, and we expect to welcome Ms. Hughes back for second semester. Along with our volunteers, we are here to assist you. Class bookings take priority in the library. However, we will do all we can to meet individual needs as well, with help in locating books, providing quiet study space, and computer use for reading, writing, and research. WexLibrary rules are posted in the library. They include common rules such as no hats or cell phones, common sense rules such as no food and drink, computer on-line rules, and specific library expectations such as maintaining quiet, respectful behaviour. Students use their SAC card for computers, and borrowing books. The loan period is generally 2 weeks, except for “R” books, magazines, and educational videos, which are one-day loans. Students are welcome to browse shelves, but never to re-shelf books. Library privileges are extended only to those who mind the rules, and who bring their books back on time. Report cards or registration may be delayed for students with overdue library materials. Students should borrow books only for their own use, as they are responsible for any loan on their student number. The library opens daily at 8:30 a.m., reopens for the second half of lunch, and remains open after school until 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and until 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. WexLibrary Volunteers earn Community Service hours, and many continue for love of the work. Other WexLibrary activities: Poetry Café, WexVoice (Songwriters @ Wex), Christmas Carol Reading, and White Pine Book Club. We also sponsor guest speakers, particularly those with a good career narrative. |
